My patients always ask if they should use an electric tooth brush, and my answer always is that it is how to brush your teeth and not what you use.
In fact, you could use regular tooth brush for less money and be effective in your cleaning. You could also spend more money on an electric tooth brush and not use it effectively. It really comes down to how much time you spend to clean your teeth and how you do clean them. Whether you used a regular or an electric tooth brush, you should spend at least 6-7 minutes to have an effective cleaning. With an electric tooth brush, you might be able to save one or two minutes probably because the brush does the movement for you.
I would say, if you are a younger person with no problem in your hands and wrists, use a regular brush and save some money for college maybe. On the other hand, if you are an older person with some restriction in your hands and wrists, use an electric tooth brush because the fact that it is faster and it helps you do the work.
I personally have and use both, but most of the time, I use my regular tooth brush.
